Verbal Behavior Services
At Simplify Center for Behavioral Services, we understand that communication is one of the most important skills for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Many children with ASD struggle to express their needs, wants, and feelings through words, which often leads to frustration and challenging behaviors. That’s where Verbal Behavior (VB), a key component of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), plays a crucial role in helping children with autism develop functional communication skills.
Our Verbal Behavior Therapy (VBT) focuses on teaching children to communicate effectively by breaking down language skills into smaller, manageable components. These components are then taught systematically using ABA principles to reinforce learning.
Key aspects of our Verbal Behavior services include:
- Manding (Requesting): Teaching children how to request items, activities, or help. For example, a child might learn to say “cookie” to ask for a cookie or “help” to ask for assistance.
- Tacting (Labeling): Helping children label objects, people, or actions they see in their environment. For example, a child might learn to say “dog” when they see a dog or “ball” when they see a ball.
- Intraverbals (Conversation Skills): Teaching children to respond to questions and engage in simple conversations. For example, if asked, “What’s your name?” the child might answer, “John.”
- Echoics (Imitation of Sounds): Teaching children to imitate sounds and words. For example, the therapist might say “apple,” and the child would repeat, “apple.”
Through these methods, we empower children with ASD to communicate more effectively, reducing frustration and improving their ability to interact with others. Our approach uses ABA techniques to ensure that skills are learned in a structured, evidence-based way, promoting long-term success in both home and community settings.
